In my experience I have found that the built in contacts of a Peco turnout that passes current from the stock rail to the closure are extremely unreliable.

So first remove the link the connects the live frog to the closure rails. The break is made at the closure rail end only as a wire will be connected to it. Then remove part of the sleeper webbing so that the underneath of the
stock rail and closure rail are exposed.

All that is left is to tin the exposed rails and the wire to the live frog and attach the wires. The turnout can now be hard wired to the track supply and the polarity of live frog can be switched by the point motor whether for dc or dcc operation. I model in n scale and it takes me about 15 minutes to convert the turnout and it is well worth the effort, so no more stalling or shorting.
