Conversion of a Bachmann Class 47 to DCC.

Dateline 12th August 2007

The Bachmann Class 47 is DCC ready but it requires a 21 pin decoder.

I selected the Zimo MX64T from Bromsgrove models.

This is a copy of the Zimo 21 pin out diagram showing all the connections.

There are six screws that hold the body to the chassis, the arrows indicate the approximate positions. Also the body is retained by body clips at each door position which have to be released by the application of the thumb nail!

DC running is achieved by a socket mounted on the 21 pins. Naturally this must be removed before the decoder can be fitted. The socket is a very tight fit and I found it best to ease each end up alternately using a small flat blade screwdriver.

Finally fit the decoder. The pin out diagram above shows pin 11 as index, this pin does not exist on the circuit board so there is only one way the decoder can be fitted.
There is space on the chassis for the decoder, the right hand end in the picture, but the harness of the Zimo MX64T was not long enough to reach. This has not caused any problems. I did a quick test run before any programming of the decoder and the loco just moved off at speed notch 1 on my NCE Power Pro.
