Today I received the latest firmware upgrade for my NCE Power Pro. from Bromsgrove models at a cost of £19 which includes a new manual.
The following photographs show how I installed the new chip.

First the 4 screws holding the cover on have to be removed and then the cover will slide off.

The chip to be changed is the one at the top left.

To remove the chip a small flat blade screwdriver is inserted between the chip and the holder, just were the nailfile is pointing.
The screwdiver is pushed in a small way at a time then gently lever up until the chip can be removed.

Please make sure that the round indentation on the chip matches the notch at the end of the socket.

First offer up the new chip to the holder and check that all the pins match socket. It is likely that the pins on the chip may be to far apart. If this is the case press a small flat piece of wood against all the chip pins on one side so that the pins are bent slightly inwards. Repeat for the other side and then check for fit. Do take care, very little pressure is required. The result wanted is that shown in the photograph.

Please make sure that the round indentation on the chip matches the notch at the end of the socket.

Finally when satisfied that all pins sit well in the socket and none are out of line, press the chip firmly home making sure that the pcb is well supported. Replace the cover, connect to the track and power and test.
