A modification to my N gauge DCC controlled layout required a scissors crossing. This is how I altered the original fixed wiring for DCC operation. The large version of the above photograph is annotated to show the various connections

First remove the original links that connect the live frogs to the closure rails. The break is made at the closure rail end as wires will be connected to the frogs. Then remove part of the sleeper webbing to expose the stock and closure rails.

All that is left is to tin the exposed rails and the wires to the live frogs and attach the various wires. There is additional wiring required for the crossing for the rail sections marked C & D and G & H.
Dealing with G & H first (the diagram refers) G is connected to the + rail and H is connected to the - rail.

C & D have to be switched according to the chosen route through the crossing. The connections can be switched by a second set of changeover contacts on each point motor and the above wiring diagram shows the connections which will avoid a short circuit if both routes are selected together The turnout can now be hard wired to the track supply and the polarity of live frogs and connections C & D are switched by the point motors whether for dc or dcc operation.
